Governor Udom Emmanuel Unfolds Package for 100 Days in Office; Clears Air on Detention of Unruly Airport Workers

Contract for the construction of a dualized road from Etinan Local Government Area to Ndon-Eyo junction in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is to be awarded to ease the traffic and boost economic activities in the area. Also in the offing is the construction of the road from Awa to Ukam in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area as well as upgrading of some hospitals in the State.

The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel announced this in Awa-Iman, his hometown where he attended the traditional wedlock between Miss. Imaobong Duncan and Mr. Iniobong Ufang.

He used the occasion to unfold the package for Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs assuring that plans have been concluded for them to access interest-free loans to improve their business and boost employment. Governor Udom said these are some of the programmes earmarked to commemorate 100 days in Office.

The Governor therefore called on Youths and Women to access the facility and improve their businesses adding that his administration gives premium to Youth empowerment rather than appointment as personal aides which he described as temporal. He restated his determination to change the economic fortune of the State and urged the people to support his mission for sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has clarified the circumstance surrounding the detention of some workers in the Ibom International Airport.

He said their arrest and detention was occasioned by their unruly behaviour where they blocked the runway posing danger to the landing of Aircraft at the Airport and that such action violates international regulatory guidelines of Airport operations.

He recalled that some staff at the Ibom International Airport had demanded for outrageous monetary compensation following their deployment to ministries and parastatals.

The Governor wondered why the staff chose to make such demands and disrupted flight operations thereby risking the safety of aircrafts as well as passengers.

He described it as an act of sabotage explaining that their action warranted the intervention of security agents who promptly arrested the perpetrators to answer for their criminal actions.
