Taxi Drivers Protest Against Police Harassment; Demand Creation of Bus Stops

Taxi drivers in the State capital have taken to the street to protest the incessant harassment by men of the police force as they go about their normal businesses.

The drivers who took their protest to the Uyo Local Government Council, the Division A' of the State police command and the government house all along Wellington Bassey Way lamented the undue harassment and taxation by police officers and demanded the creation of bus stops around and within the city to avoid further embarrassments.

The chairman of the taxi town service, Comrade Aniedi Etukudo state that the harassment took full swing from last week with so many vehicles belonging to their members impounded. He said the police demand various amounts ranging from N5000 to N20,000 from the victims before the release of their vehicles for business.
