As the date to formal inauguration of the 6th Assembly draws closer, residents of the state are getting more anxious as to who will take the mantle of leadership from the out-going Speaker; the Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sam Ikon.
With the search for the next Speaker being narrowed down to Uyo Senatorial District and according to the existing rules of the House which has it that only a returning member can be voted to occupy the exalted office, Hon. Barr. Onofiok Akpan Luke of Nsit Ubium State Constituency and Hon. Barr. Ime Okon of Ibiono Ibom State Constituency are possible contenders.
Both returning members have the requisite knowledge and experience to guide the proceedings of the House, but unlike Hon. Barr. Luke who is currently the only elected member from the PDP in his constituency, Hon. Barr. Okon has the Senator-Elect of Uyo Senatorial District; Obong Bassey Albert aka OBA from his constituency.
Observers believe that with OBA in the Senate and a Speaker coming from the same constituency, there is need to shift the position of Speaker to Nsit Ubium State Constituency and as such, Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke should be given the opportunity.
