The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, on Saturday,
said the Ibaka Deep Seaport which is in the works, will provide
thousands of jobs for unemployed Nigerians. Akpabio made this known in
Abuja where he received executives of the Chinese Company, CCECC, which
has expressed interest in the project.
Governor Akpabio disclosed
that fourteen thousand nine hundred hectares of land had been acquired
for the development of the seaport, and explained that apart from
providing jobs for thousands of unemployed people, the Ibaka Seaport,
when completed, will help to decongest existing seaports in the country.
The governor said that the seaport would promote commerce and
complement the port in Lagos and also serve as a major trans-shipment
point for the West African coast.
Akpabio is expected to sign a
Memorandum of Understanding in September when the speaker of Chinese
People’s Congress will be in Nigeria.
