No Inch of Akwa Ibom Land will be Ceded to Ijaw's Oil Rivers State

By FrontLine Akwa Ibom Movement (FAIME)

PRESS STATEMENT

Our attention has been drawn to a news item on Vanguard Newspaper of August 21, 2014 by a group claiming to be Ijaw Youth Council, (IYC) Worldwide.

The report which is based on a statement signed by one Eric Omare, who claims to be the spokesperson of IYC, attempted to cast aspersion on the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien and indeed Akwa Ibom Caucus to the 2014 National Conference.

Mr. Omare insulting statement against Akwa Ibom Caucus to the 2014 National Conference reads in part, “The petitioners are not part of the proposed state; hence they lack the locus to oppose the creation of Oil Rivers State. Therefore, we call on the relevant authorities to disregard the protest as the proposed Oil Rivers State deserves to be created on merit.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that anybody or group of people opposing the creation of homogenous Ijaw states for the Ijaw people of Akwa Ibom and Rivers State on the one hand, and the Ijaw people of Delta, Edo and Ondo states on the other, are threats to the existence of Ijaw people.

“And we are ready to take any step to protect our existence. The IYC would not sit back and allow Ijaw people to be politically and economically oppressed and suffocated in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Edo and Ondo states.”

While we do not intend to join issues with the IYC over its spurious claims or be bothered by its empty threats against perceived opponents to the creation of an Oil Rivers State for Ijaw people, we, however, wish to use this medium to put the records straight.

Nigerians and the world have not forgotten the role played by some criminal elements in the killing of thousands of innocent people of the Niger Delta region under the guise of militancy and Niger Delta struggle.

Nobody is in any doubt about the genesis of the touted militancy in the once peaceful oil-rich region where the people hitherto engaged both the government and oil majors in constructive dialogue as well as the ignoble roles prominent politicians in the Ijaw areas and IYC members played in the carnage that later engulfed the region.

We have not also forgotten that those who led in the killings and who supervised the devastation of hundreds of communities and engaged in oil theft, vandalism of oil pipelines, kidnapping and hostage taking, armed robbery, piracy, pickpocketting and sundry crimes were not only former leaders but are still members of the IYC.

Under normal circumstances, people who killed and maimed women and children and who raped young and old women and plunder communities at peace time are supposed to face the full weight of national and international law.

It is indeed unfortunate that the leaders and members of identified criminal gangs, who would have been sent to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to face charges for crimes against humanity, are now enjoying Presidential Amnesty and running amok in search of new frontiers for plunder.

Today, Akwa Ibom which is currently the largest oil producing state in the country has not benefitted from the Amnesty programme of the Federal Government because our youth refused to be recruited into the notorious gangs and ragtag militia groups that unleashed terror on Niger Delta people and communities and would not also allow them use even an inch of Akwa Ibom soil for their dirty campaigns.

Today, Akwa Ibom people and communities who employed the techniques of constructive engagement and who abhorred violence in resolving the long years of environmental pollution by multinational oil companies and neglect by succeeding governments in Nigeria have been excluded from a multi-billion dollar Amnesty Project while criminals who kill people and plunder the region are sent to some of the best schools and institutions all over the world, for training. To the chagrin of respectable people, Illiterate criminals and their cohorts now implement multi-billion contracts and live large because they come from a particular ethnic group in the Niger Delta region.

While we will continue to pursue peace in the Niger Delta region and support the cause of a united Nigeria, we wish to warn IYC and any other group for that matter, not to take the peaceful disposition of Akwa Ibom people for granted.

The elders and people of Akwa Ibom State are not opposed to the creation of Oil Rivers or any other state for Ijaw people. But we will not allow an inch of Akwa Ibom land to be excised for the purpose of creating a state for Ijaw people and we will employ every legal means to resist any attempt by groups such as IYC to blackmail our leaders.

The world watched with stark disbelief as IYC leaders and members displayed sheer savagery by beating up traditional rulers, insulting elders and executing their families during attacks and counter attacks between 2004-2010. Akwa Ibom youth are law-abiding people who have tremendous respect for elders and constituted authority.

Even when they have been provoked by the IYC’s diatribe against their leaders, our youth are proud to identify with foremost Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, who in a letter dated August 12, disowned the purported attempt by some Ijaw fifth columnists to annex parts of Akwa Ibom State to form a new state for themselves.

Part of the letter titled, “OIL RIVERS STATE,” which was addressed to the Chairman of the Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi, reads, “Our attention has been drawn to documents circulating in the Conference concerning the composition of the proposed ‘Oil Rivers State’ with some parts of Akwa Ibom State as constituting the proposed state.

“This is at variance with the Conference decision of the Committee on Restructuring and Forms of Government. The Conference decision as correctly reflected on page 281 (b) of the draft report was that ‘the third state to be created in the South-South zone will be named later along with its state capital.’ At no time was a decision taken to include any part of Akwa Ibom State in the proposed ‘Oil Rivers State.’

“Kindly expunge every reference to Akwa Ibom State in the proposed ‘Oil Rivers State’ from your final Report and Draft Constitution as this may have been done in error and does not reflect the position of the South-South zone on the issue.”

We also wish to bring to the attention of IYC and the promoters of the proposed Oil Rivers State, the advertorial published by the leaders and representatives of Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on the Nation Newspaper of August 21, titled, OPEN LETTER TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE LEADERSHIP AND MEMBERS: PROPOSED OIL RIVERS STATE, PLEASE COUNT IBENO OUT.

In the advertorial, the leaders of Ibeno disassociated themselves totally from the move to balkanize Akwa Ibom State and advanced strong reasons for their action. They clearly speak the minds of the people of Ibeno and reject the attempted annexation of Akwa Ibom land for the purpose of serving the gratuitous and annexationist tendencies of IYC and their promoters.

It is, therefore, curious to think that the proponents of an Oil Rivers State did not consult with the people they intended to bring into the new state but rather indulged in blackmail and endless cries of marginalization.

It is also on record that at no time did Ijaw leaders within and outside the chamber of the National Conference engaged the leaders and people of Akwa Ibom in a discuss over the creation of an Oil Rivers State or any state for that matter.

We, therefore, use this medium to warn the IYC and Ijaw third columnists to stop misappropriating the goodwill of the Niger Delta people towards President Goodluck Jonathan and other respected leaders of Ijaw extraction.

The Niger Delta region is made up of homogenous people with deep cultural and ancestral ties and nobody or group should attempt to live in a false fantasy that the region belongs to them.

We are prepared to defend the lands, the resources and the people of Akwa Ibom State against annexationist groups and interest and nobody should test our will.

IYC should concern itself with the multi-billion Amnesty Funds that it has cornered as an Ijaw patrimony and leave Akwa Ibom and its people alone.

Those, whose kernels were cracked for them by benevolent spirits, should not forget to be humble. A word to the wise is enough.

"There is an impending crumble of our health sector because there is no forum for training. The masses are suffering." - Dr. Stanley Ukpai

In this exclusive interview with Akwa Ibom Online, Dr. Stanley Ukpai, a Medical Doctor with the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo bares his mind on the recent face-off between the Federal Government and Medical Doctors.

Excerpts:

Akwa Ibom Online:
Some days ago, precisely on the 13th of August, 2014, Nigerians were stunned on the announcement of the suspension of Residency Training in Nigeria. What's your take on this suspension?

Dr. Stanley:
An impending crumble of our health sector because there is no forum for training. Only this govt offers money to militants and expels it's doctors. Laughs

Akwa Ibom Online:
Have you seen the NARD's update?

Dr. Stanley:
The call for doctors not to apply for Locum, Yes. We will see how this all plays out.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Is the idea of the Locum a very bad one?

Dr. Stanley:
It's not an efficient one. You see for residency, you have to write exams. It is purely academical and for people to move forward with their knowledge in medicine. So you have to keep updating yourself. Locum is about the willingness and availability to serve irrespective of your knowledge base.
Residency is a worldwide phenomena for training doctors. It's not Civil Service where your length of stay is basis for promotion which is what Locum will start using, as nurses do. For residency as you acquire length of stay, you prove your worth with residency exams per stage. So it serves as a scrutiny body to weed out quackery. Like Locum now, if I get connected I could get employed over my boss who is more academically advanced. We cannot be going bckwards in Nigeria. Where we are is still too far behind to be doing this.

Akwa Ibom Online:
So, will you say the doctors are right in their action?

Dr. Stanley:
Well, no and yes. Yes because strike is the action government understands. It's little money we asking for and if they (government) are skipping, they should skip accross all boards and the CMD sacredness.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Why No?

Dr. Stanley:
No Because the masses suffer. And this period shows.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Why can't the doctors put the oath the swore to first and foremost?

Dr. Stanley:
Well they did a lot of time that the oath now has been used against them. The doctors will not treat someone all the time and go home hungry to his family or treat someone with Ebola, catch it then dies and his family has nothing. It is just job security commensurate with service given that we need.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Do you think the action taken by government was the wish of the President or that of the Honourable Minister?

Dr. Stanley:
Either or both. We have lost faith in both.

Akwa Ibom Online:
As the letter reads, "Mr. President has approved the suspension...." it means that it was a request by someone (Minister of Health in this case)...

Dr. Stanley:
True. But the President is not supposed to be a rubber stamp. He is supposed to analyze and ponder not just do without consideration.

Akwa Ibom Online:
He is a very busy man. Flesh and blood working on advises given to him and in this case, considering the fact that the Honorable Minister is also from the Medical field...

Dr. Stanley:
Well I see that point, but how can you sack doctors in the middle of a health scare? The doctors in those areas where there is health-scare are still working. The doctors in Boko Haram areas are still working. Just the areas in no apparent dangers are on strike.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Are you saying the strike isn't a complete nationwide strike?

Dr. Stanley:
There can never be a complete nationwide strike.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Well, most Nigerians thought it was a complete nationwide strike action.

Dr. Stanley:
Missionary hospitals are still working. Private hospitals are still working. Problematic regions are still on. Just Federal hospitals that are crippled. If it were a complete shutdown, you would know someone that died in these past few weeks. That is complete.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Someone or the number?

Dr. Stanley:
Someone and the number.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Thank you very much Dr. Stanley. But before I let you go, one last one. If given the opportunity, what will you advise the President to do in this impasse in the health sector.

Dr. Stanley:
Well that is a tough one. This is now hydra-headed. I'd ask that he goes back to the original model he had for the health sector that has to be unbiased and honest. Or he enquire from nations that have gotten it done. As medicine teaches, if you don't know, ask.

Akwa Ibom Online:
Thank you.

Dr. Stanley:
Always a pleasure

Nigeria Confirms Another Ebola Case

The ministry of health has confirmed that one more Nigerian has tested positive to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), bringing the total number of cases of the virus in the country to 10.

Also, a total of 177 people – both primary and secondary contacts – are now under surveillance. Those initially under surveillance were 59 in number.

According to minister of health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, the latest victim is a married nurse, “and her husband has been placed under surveillance”.

“We have succeeded in identifying all the primary contacts”, Chukwu said, dousing the fears of Nigerians that the disease might have spiralled out of control.

“President Goodluck Jonathan approved the National Ebola Virus Disease Emergency Containment Plan with immediate cash backing of N1.9bn to further complement the containment efforts already in place.

“The federal government, through the federal ministry of health and its agencies, works very closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local authorities and other international partners to further deepen and broaden these containment efforts.”

The minister lamented that Nigeria remained an Ebola virus-free country until Sawyer’s unfortunate introduction and contamination, but he assured that the country would continue to work with all stakeholders to contain the virus and explore other ways to develop drugs for Ebola victims.

“I wish to reiterate that the federal government of Nigeria shall continue to discharge its responsibilities within the sub region as we collectively confront and stop this outbreak of Ebola,” he said.

2015: A Fight For The Soul Of Akwa Ibom

As the 2015 elections gets tough in Akwa Ibom State, our investigations, however, have revealed five topmost aspirants, who are jostling for the number one seat in the state.

Here they are:

1. Governor Godswill Akpabio:
The present Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, is seen as a top contender to the governorship of the state in 2015. Political analysts say he is neck deep in the race because of the schemes he is plotting to produce a successor. At functions, in private, he has left no one in doubt that he is very interested in producing his successor. This makes analysts believe he is in the race, though by proxies. Some of the known proxies associated to the Governor are the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim. Governor Akpabio is known to be behind the formation and functioning of an Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA) which is promoting Udom’s candidature. ACA membership is said to be mandatory for all government functionaries. Ntekim is said to be his plan b. reports say Akpabio had mobilized him with money to start consolidation among his Oro people. Udom and Ntekim’s strength seem to be their connection to akpabio. Their weaknesses are same: lack of connection to the grassroots and fear among politicians of a possible elitist government if they are voted in.

2. Obong Umana Okon Umana:

Erstwhile Secretary to the State Government has said he will not withdraw from the race even though the zoning arrangement of the state chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) does not favour him. Touted as Governor Akpabio’s anointed before he was booted out in controversial
circumstances, Umana’s associates tell anyone who cares to hear that Umana was never interested in the governorship until he was asked to contest by Akpabio. How, when and why Governor Akpabio changed his mind about him still remains a mystery. Umana remains a strong contender in the race with a large followership, especially among Ibibio elders and non-office holding politicians. He is said to have a huge financial war chest to counter whatever the governor will spend in his quest to install a successor.

3. Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh:
The leader of the state house of assembly is one top contender whose strength is being underrated by those who do not understand politics. A quiet and humble strategist, Etteh has the backing of most of the statutory delegates, especially party members. He is also very much at home with youths in the state. Not known for fanfare, he is said to be pursuing his ambition as someone seeking party nomination, not as one who has the party ticket already. Many believe the Governor will not have a problem backing his candidature if he wins his anointed since he has been the Governor’s friend before he became Governor. Many believe as a minority Ibeno man, he may not be able to carry the day in a state where the three major tribes of Ibibio, Annang and Oron fight for dominance. To this, his supporters say he is connected to all the tribes. His mother is from Ikono (Ibibio), his grandmother from Uyo, his wife from Etim Ekpo (Annang) and his Ibeno kinsmen have filial bond with Oron through Mbang, its founder who was brother to Ukpabang (Oron’s founder).

4. Obong Nsima Ekere:
Intelligent, cute and calm, Ekere was Deputy Governor till he resigned in 2012. Many believe Ekere was forced to resign because of his ambition to take over from Governor Akpabio in 2015.  A man with good political, business and social contacts, Ekere was once touted as the Governor’s favourite before Udom Emmanuel emerged. Highly connected, Ekere has traversed the state on consultations. Many, however, believe several factors will work against him. One of them is the fact that he is seen as proud and elitist.

5. Obong Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA):
Youthful and intelligent, Bassey Albert Akpan was Commissioner for finance before he was given the boot by Governor Akpabio sometimes this year. Akpan has followership among youths and is making inroads into the Ibibio elders’ enclave and other areas. He is seen as one of the people with a huge financial war chest to unsettle the Governor in 2015 race. His weakness remains the zoning arrangement of the party at the state level, an arrangement he has kicked seriously against. His latest endorsement by Senator Effiong Bob is seen as a plus.

Also in the race are Senator Helen Esuene, Prof. Richard King, Engr. Benjamin Okoko, Bishop Samuel Akpan, Mr. Robert Umoette, Mr. Asuquo Okpo, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, Chief Jerome Isangedighi, Justice Nya Ebito, Engr. Michael Onofiok, Mr. Larry Esin, Michael Sebastine, among others.

Robinson Uwak's Vain-Glorious Conspiracy

By Aniekan Umanah

I have followed with deep sense of nostalgia, the rather unfortunate attempt by my brother, Hon. Robinson Uwak, in recent times, to disparage and malign his Governor and benefactor, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON.
Lucky Dube, peace on his ashes, once sang the lines, "leaders start a war anytime they want. Some for their rights, some for fun, some for their own glory." Those words reverberate in my mind when I consider the recent vainglorious war of calumny visited on our pragmatic leader and boss, Governor Akpabio, by Hon. Robinson Uwak. It so oft pricks me to recall the remarkable lines of William Shakespeare, laced with all the foreboding of classic irony, "EVEN THOU BRUTUS," in the playscript, Julius Caesar.

Now, Hon. Uwak is not just anybody. He is a leader in his own right. Uwak represents Oron, which is one out of the ten Federal Constituencies of Akwa Ibom State in the National Assembly. In what many pundits have described as a desperate attempt to secure a second term ticket, Uwak resorted to using his Facebook wall to rain invectives on Governor Akpabio.

When my attention was initially drawn to his facile comments, I expressed doubts that a man of honourable esteem, like Robinson Uwak, will stoop so low. My doubt was dispelled when I actually confirmed the rants on his Facebook wall. In my rumination, I wondered what is honourable about a son who plays to strip his father before a partisan crowd. I pondered on how Uwak wants to earn political goodwill by insulting the office and person of his governor.

That my brother Uwak threw caution to the wind to denigrate and make public ridicule of the respect accorded him by Governor Godswill Akpabio, shows the height of disregard and contempt he holds against the State Governor who had, through a telephone conversation, invited him to discuss his grievances.
Like the proverbial man who tries to hide his face behind his thumb, Uwak believes, erroneously, that by casting slur on Governor Akpabio's unrivalled performance, his below par performance in the National Assembly will be canceled out.

Uwak, attempting to incite ethnic strife and exploit fault lines, alleged that Governor Akpabio hates Oro nation and has marginalized them in all ramifications with total neglect. He goes ahead to put down the pragmatic peoples' Governor, calling him "the Uncommon Transformer of Annang Land and parts of Uyo".

I had a good laugh when his hirelings, in cue like a choreographed ensemble, went wild with media blitz to hail Uwak as an Oron patriot and defender. I laughed uncontrollably because most of them are not from Oro nation. The few who are, no doubt, are those who subscribe to Uwak's crumbling private interest cloaked as good for the Oro peoples and their politics. I will explain.

Let me begin by stating that no leader in the world can ever complete or do everything in such a manner that there is nothing left to be done. That is why we all know that Government is a continuum. Chief Akpabio, by himself, does acknowledge this fact. Often times, he alludes to the truth that if Jesus Christ had finished everything there was to be done pertaining to the faith, pastors and other clergymen the world over would be useless in the present and future ages. Fact is that they are here with us because the harvest is plenty but the reapers are few.
Uwak has taken his grandstanding to another conceited and deceptive level. In order to prove his allegation against H. E. Governor Godswill Akpabio, he purportedly commissioned a documentary written and produced to spotlight only the downsides of Oro geophysical realities. While nobody denies that there a few downsides, the problems and challenges that Governor Akpabio met on ground were enormous, are almost impossible to conceive because of sheer enormity. The incontrovertible fact remains that he has performed excellently for the entire state, and in particular moved the Oro nation forward. It is worrisome that Uwak conveniently ignored the goodies Governor Akpabio has delivered to Oro nation, but gloats in fault finding. This smacks of cheap politicking.

Chief Dr. Godswill Akpabio, I must confess, deserves the appreciation and praise of every Oro man and, indeed, of the good people of Akwa Ibom. So much more, we should thank God Almighty; He granted us the blessing of such a leader who has earned world acclaim for his seven-star performance. When he came on board on May 29, 2007, his speech - A HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF ALL COMPONENTS OF THE STATE inspired hope and set the spirit and vision of his administration. Intent on developing all parts of the state and making government to work, Governor Akpabio adopted proper models for multi-sector development. By these arrangements and models, all the major sub-urban centres in the former divisions would be re-developed as the melting points of their catchment areas. Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Etinan, Eket, Abak, Ikot Abasi and Oron became focal points.

Roads construction, which have taken a major leap in the Akpabio administration, were well spread. In that deliberate plan: Eket has 49 urban roads; Oron had 34; Ikot Abasi had 18; Abak had 19; and Etinan with a stretch of 18.6 kilometres of road constructed.

Since Oro nation is the issue, I want my brother, Hon. Uwak to dispute the fact that all the underlisted road projects are not located there.
The roads include:

ORON
1) a) The Construction of Etebi Ewang Road & Bridge 23km (ONGOING)
b) Etebi Ewang Bridge - 1.2km (The longest bridge in Akwa Ibom State)

As we speak, over 27 or 80% of those roads in Oron axis have been completed and several inaugurated. Few others had design defects and are being re-constructed. If Uwak is not aware of this, then he has spent too much time in Abuja and on Facebook, his new home.

Naturally, Uyo as the capital city hosts a more significant chunk of the key projects which I will not bother to count. Nevertheless, Oron nation is host to the Ibom International Airport with a major road bypass criss-crossing Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area and all the way to Okobo. That road was constructed by the administration to complement the airport which opens up the state in general, and Oron Federal Constituency in particular, to unprecedented opportunities on an international scale.

Eket Senatorial District can boast of a fair share of the Governor's midas touch. The Ibom Power Plant at Ikot Abasi, which he met at 65% completion level, was completed by Governor Akpabio. Eastern Obolo, since creation of the state, had her first ever State Government project, a world class General Hospital, completed by His Excellency Governor Akpabio. It also has several inter-ministerial projects scattered across her tough terrain.

We also note that the biggest gas processing plant in this part of the world has been completed at Uquo in Esit Eket, having 59 kilometres of gas pipeline feeding Ikot Abasi. It is awaiting inauguration by Mr President. Ibeno, which is a major oil hub, also has a first ever hospital constructed by the Governor Akpabio administration. We can also cite the ongoing dualization of Eket-Ibeno road as part of the Uncommon Transformer's signature project in Eket Senatorial District. How come the Governor is said to have only impacted on Uyo and Annang land by our brother?

Should we also remind Hon. Uwak that Governor Akpabio has pursued with zeal and passion the realization of the Ibaka deep seaport at Mbo? Although in the exclusive list of the Federal Government, the Akpabio administration has not relented effort in demonstrating political will, logistic or financial support to speed up its completion. Again, this is planned to be the hub of international business in the Gulf of Guinea and is one that will benefit the people of Oro nation the most. Yet, Governor Akpabio is not an Oro man, but a patriot and statesman in his thinking and vision.

The ambitious project of embarking on the longest bridge in the state at Okontighe across River Mbo was effected by Governor Akpabio. This project, Uwak knows, has always remained in the pipeline of successive administrations for over sixty years. But, Uwak will not acknowledge the large heartedness of the governor to pull it off. Our people in Mbo and Oro nation, who will benefit from that landmark, celebrate this great achiever.

It beats my imagination that Hon. Uwak is unaware of the 483 inter - ministerial projects executed and inaugurated, with an additional 157 ongoing projects across Oro nation .These include classroom blocks, mini water schemes, electricity projects, health centres among others. Many more are currently in progress.
He may also be unaware that Iquita General Hospital was one of the secondary healthcare facilities to be completed courtesy of the Uncommon Transformer of Annang Land and Uyo. That hospital and its 18 blocks for House Officers are not in Annang land, but were constructed by the Governor Akpabio administration in Oro nation.

Can we deny that our own people also executed the Inter-Ministerial contracts and were thus empowered by the Akpabio administration? Can I add that over two billion Naira worth of projects are involved in these transactions?

If Governor Akpabio has neglected Oro nation, his political patronage ought to reflect something other than what we know. Oron nation have produced two Ministers of the Federal Republic through Governor Akpabio. Prof. Ita Okon Ewa was Honourable Minister of Science and Technology and, currently, Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi is the Honourable Minister of Housing.

At every point in this administration since 2007, the five local Governments of Oro nation, in a state with 31 Council areas, fill three slot with Honourable Commissioners. The three Commissioners now in service are: Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim (Justice and Attorney General); Prof. Alice Antai (Education); and Mr Ante Oquong (Economic Development). There was also the Late Pastor Oyong Asuquo and Chief Victor Iyanam who served as Commissioners in key ministries. So, what is Akpabio's sin against the Oro nation? None whatsoever!

The Chairman of the Governing Board of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof. Eminue, and Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Arc Out Ita Toyo, are both of Oro extraction. Even the pioneer bursar of the new Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, is not Annang but from Oro nation that has its fair share of political appointments as do other parts of the State.

Oron nations quest to be included and recognized as an oil producing area got its most significant endorsement from Governor Akpabio. For the first time ever, an Oro son, Etim Inyang jnr. was appointed Commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Board. For the ongoing National Conference at Abuja, Her Excellency Mrs Atim Okpoyo, Chief Okon Osung - Chairman of Oro Think Tank and Dr Uyot were nominated by the governor as members of the state delegation to the confab Should we remind Uwak that all these do not smack of neglect of a people?
Should we also inform him that the failed portions of the federal Oron/Uyo road is receiving due intervention from Governor Akpabio who deployed Nigerpet Construction Company to reclaim the area while awaiting Federal input? Has he forgotten that the Akpabio administration has acquired and paid compensation for land in order to expand the Maritime Academy, Oron that is bidding to obtain a degree awarding university status from the Federal Government? Is Oro nation left out of the Free and Compulsory Education programme up to Senior Secondary level put in place the Akpabio administration? Uwak should please answer these questions.

My submission, therefore, is that Governor Akpabio has taken keen interest in the overall development of the State without leaving out even the remotest part. I have a deep sense of gratitude to a man who has significantly altered our perception and definition of politics, while engaging first class good governance methods.

Uwak's resort to open letters and Facebook war is not only laced with mischief, but skewed with prejudice and political treachery. Governor Akpabio has done his best within consideration of competing challenges across the state and limit of resources available to him. What is left is for all persons in Oro nation, and Akwa Ibom as a whole, to pray earnestly that God should give us a worthy successor who will continue from where Governor Akpabio's tenure ends, who will sustain his passion and drive for comprehensive development of all parts of the State and even surpass his legacies. Governor Akpabio does not deserve Uwak's vainglorious war of playing to the gallery. We are not amused, fooled or blindfolded by his antics.

Finally, let me remind my brother, Hon. Uwak, that if he believes the lie that abusing Governor Akpabio on pages of newspapers, electronic or social media platforms will guarantee him a second term ticket, which is his real target, then he has taking a walk into darkness. One does not have to destroy others in a bid to succeed.
